Who is sublime palate?

Hey there!

IMG_9564 2

I am Vishakha, the human behind this personal food blog, Sublime Palate. Sublime Palate is my personal blog – my creative playground where I write about my food stories, this suburban life with my family, fun recipes that I create in my kitchen and some cherished family recipes.

I’m Indian by birth and a citizen of the world by belief. I live in New Jersey with my husband and two adorable boys (age 4 and 9). We are a food loving family who love to cook, experiment with flavours and try everything new!

For 9 years, I was a workaholic living the corporate life, when I decided things needed to change. I took on the hardest job on this planet – being the primary caregiver to my 2 babies. I am still learning to embrace the beauty of the suburban life and tackle the challenges with an open mind!

Before living in the ‘burbs, I lived in Singapore for 14 years where I worked, got married, got friends like family, became a Mom and discovered my immense passion for food!

Most of my childhood was spent in Bhubaneshwar and Delhi. We traveled to my grandparents home in Bihar for summer holidays. (Now that explains my fascination with train journeys and farms.)

However, the best days of my life (as a child) were the summers I spent in Dhaka. My father worked in Dhaka for many years. Dhaka is a food heaven with such warm and hospitable people who treat you like family!

I have had a long time love affair with Thai Food! It all started when I moved to Bangkok with my parents for my undergrads. Living there was instrumental in teaching me how humans thrive in diversity and openness.

My core beliefs:

Women are strong beyond measure. I know it for a fact in every cell of my body! All we need is to recognize our own worth, stop waiting for permission and stand up for ourselves as well as others.

Living in different parts of the world shapes and grows your mind organically. It makes you realize that at the end of the day, we are all just the same. We love our families. We worry about our children’s health and safety. We want to be happy and live meaningful lives.

If you are still reading, Thank You!

Now, here are some more random facts about me:

I helped my Mom in the kitchen for as far back as I can remember! I was 18 when I prepared a full dinner for guests – a family of three – They survived!

Always dreamt of going to Culinary school, but life got in the way. I secretly spend time browsing the website of Culinary School of America.

Yoga and meditation are my fitness tools. I started doing yoga about 2 years ago and it has been life changing!

A chilled beer, great food and conversations with good friends – That’s my way to unwind after a long day.

Also, I dance like nobody’s watching!

Now, I’d love to know more about you too! Drop me a comment below and tell me something about yourself.

Thank you 🙂

I have been blogging photo-stories and urging her to write travelogues with food dimension. I have bookmarked and sent the link to her. She will go through and will be delighted and inspired. 3. Hi Vishakha, it’s such a pleasure hopping into your blog… I’m so glad that you left your comments in mine… your definition about yourself is so comprehensive yet makes such a strong statement… feels like a déja vu as well – only that I can never write so less. Your photographs are amazing – will take time to have gone through the blog. Right now, all I can say is that I’m happy to be following:)

    1. Thanks Ishita for the follow:) It was tough to write so little 😉 I need to write to speak my heart out and in the process, I too, write a LOT. It is almost like my thoughts gets instantly translated to words.. I need to make an effort to write less and condense my thoughts.. Thanks for following my blog. I really enjoyed reading your writeups about Bong food. Look forward to more 🙂

  4. Hey Sublime Palate, I am pleasantly surprised to find you, I think along with all the things you said you are, you are also a true artist, not bound by a single medium of expression, hence versatile, and you definitely excel in all the forms you wish to express yourself. Carry on….proud of you!

    Priyanka
